Price tag RM0.00 compulsory on SMS message body

Mandatory of price tag “RM0.00” to all Bulk SMS solution as to ensure each text message received by mobile users is free of charge. Telcos add the price tag of RM0.00 at the start of each SMS, follows by your SMS message to be displayed to indicate no charge to the message received.

All messages must append “RM0.00 and followed by space” in front of the SMS message. Failure to comply to above standard will cause the SMS message being rejected by all Telcos automatically. Any rejected SMS message by Telcos will still result in deduction of SMS credit even though the message was terminated before it is delivered to the mobile users.

With the new guideline, 7 of the standard 160 characters per one SMS shall be reserved for the RM0.00 price tag, resulting a maximum of 153 remaining characters for Standard SMS.

Example of new message:

RM0.00 Trio Mobile is having promotion now. (43 characters)

For the alphanumeric message, content provider has to limit to 153 characters per sms; for Unicode message, it will be upto 63 characters per sms. The new price tag policy was effective from 2010 that all Bulk SMS of level 6 short code must start with RM0.00.

The implementation of the RM0.00 price tag is comply within Clause 4 of “Guidelines on the Provision of Mobile Content and Services” that issued by Malaysia Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) and endorsed by all local Malaysia Telcos.
